Seasonals  … they are one of the best things about beer.  Every quarter or so, a whole new crop of one-offs and limited availability favorites finds their way to your glass.  Brewers have to think ahead to have season-appropriate beer pouring when it is supposed to be … which is why this summer-time post is focusing on a winter seasonal.

One of the more-well-known seasonals in town is Jubelale.  This winter warmer from Deschutes has been around for a long time, and is one of the few beers in the industry that marries graphic arts with the artistry of brewing.  Every year, the brewery picks an Oregon artist to “create an image evocative of the season’s festive atmosphere,” and that image becomes the label for that year’s Jubel.  If you visit the brewery, they have a hallway dedicated to showcasing the original artwork that was used.

Yesterday, Deschutes stoked this traditions fire by posting a Jubelale artwork preview showing what this year’s label will look like, and also announced they are beginning to brew it this week.  I’m a fan of this beer.  While I am wanting summer to hang around as long as possible, I will welcome the release and look forward to to learning more about the art and artist that was chosen for this year’s label.

Cheers.
