In June Deschutes Brewery announced that Larry Sidor will be leaving the company at the end of 2011.  Deschutes announced yesterday that they promoted Cam O’Connor and Brian Faivre to two newly formed Bewmaster positions.  No real details on how these two will share the Brewmaster role, but looking at their profiles there seems to be a nice balance that will help keep the experimentation alive while expanding volume and improving consistency.

“Pushing boundaries and experimenting with new beers is what defines us as a company,” said Gary Fish, president and founder of Deschutes Brewery. “Brian and Cam have been instrumental in creating many of the new beers that have been brought to our fans over the last few years. The fact that we were able to promote from within the brewing department is a testament to the strong team of brewers we have here at Deschutes, and we are looking forward to seeing their creativity continue in their expanded roles as brewmasters.”

Cam O’Connor has been with Deschutes Brewery since 2004, after leaving Sierra Nevada, and was the first brewer at the Portland Pub when it opened in 2009. Cam holds a bachelor of arts in biology with a minor in chemistry, and has completed the University of California Davis Master Brewer Program.

Brian Faivre joined Deschutes five years ago after leaving the world of software development and has worked in various roles in the brewing department, most recently as assistant brewmaster for production technology. Brian’s background in computer science has helped him optimize recipes and develop operating procedures to take Deschutes to the next level of production. He holds a bachelor of science in computer science and has also completed the University of California Davis Master Brewer Program.
